Position Summary: The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

The Musical Theatre BFA program at The School of Stage and Screen at Western Carolina University welcomes candidate submissions to join our dynamic Musical Theatre community. We seek energetic, vibrant, and engaging individuals with a willingness to learn and a desire to grow with us as we continue to increase our national footprint.

This is a full-time, 9-month, one year fixed-term position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until a candidate has been selected. Anticipated begin work date is August 2024.

Responsibilities may include:
  1. Teaching voice lessons to BFA Musical Theatre students and participating in weekly Voice Studio Masterclasses.
  2. Scheduling BFA Musical Theatre student voice lessons and accompaniment sessions.
  3. Serve as an academic advisor for BFA Musical Theatre students.
  4. Serve on departmental adjudication panels and juries.
  5. Other duties as assigned.


The School of Stage and Screen is housed in the Belcher College of Fine and Performing Arts. The school serves approximately 200 majors in Film & Television Production, Musical Theatre | Acting performance, Entertainment Design & Technology, and BA Theatre. It also houses a flourishing Dance Minor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this position:

Minimum Qualifications: MFA in Musical Theatre or MFA/MM in Vocal Performance. Individuals without a terminal degree but with commensurate professional experience will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications: MFA in Musical Theatre or DMA/PhD in Music Education (with vocal concentration) or Vocal Performance. At least three years of experience teaching in higher education. Demonstrated professional experience in the Musical Theatre world, including, but not limited to: Performance, Music Directing, Vocal Coaching, Vocal Direction, Composition, Arrangement, or Rehearsal Accompanist/Musical Director. Demonstrated commitment to and excellence in teaching diverse student populations, including first-generation college students.
